It has only been ten matches played in the 2019/20 premier league campaign but a lot of drama has already built up at the Emirates so far!
Arsenal are currently fifth on the premier league table, four points behind Chelsea in fourth and being just early days, what could the problem be?
Unai Emery joined Arsenal seventeen months ago in May 2018 in what most Arsenal fans felt would be a turnaround for the Gunners after the end of Arsene Wenger’s long management at the club.
However, the immediate changes most fans expected weren’t forthcoming with the North London club finishing outside the top four and so playing in the Europa league yet again in Emery’s first season.
As though that wasn’t sad enough, their only chance at a silverware for the season ended in a 4-1 defeat at the hands of London rivals Chelsea at the 2018/19 Europa league final in Baku earlier this year.
Most fans were still willing to be patient with the manager given that it was his first season in England and he was probably still adjusting.
The summer transfer signings further lifted up the spirits at the Emirates with fans believing that they finally have a chance to effectively compete for the top four and maybe the title.
The additions of Nicolas Pepe, Kieran Tierney, Martenelli, David Luiz and Ceballos brought the thrills but that excitement at the start of the season has since become a distant memory.
Despite sitting fifth on the table, Arsenal has played the most lackluster football we have seen from the North London club in recent times coupled with the constant rotation of the team and players being played out of position.
The continuous absence of play maker Mesut Ozil from the squad has been a major source of frustration for fans of the club especially when there were no valid reasons for his exclusion.
This has in turn hugely depleted the creativity of their midfield and coupled with a very shaky defense; let’s just say that they have seen better days.
Arsenal for the second time this season has let a two goal lead slip as they drew on both occasions, first away to Watford and then in their last PL game against Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium on Match-week 10.
Match-week 9 saw them struggle to create any chances in an eventual loss away to new comers Sheffield United.
Ten games into the season and Arsenal fans are already calling for the sack of Unai Emery stating that the team has no identify and style of play under the Spaniard coupled with the performances that have been next to nothing.
Although Emery’s two year contract will expire at the end of the season, many fans have taken to social media to express that they want him gone before things become worse than they are.
The recent event of club captain Granit Xhaka’s reaction to boos from the fans as he got substituted in their draw to Palace further added tension to an already dire situation.
Unless the situation at the Emirates change for the better and fast too, Unai Emery may well be on his way out of Arsenal.
Some fans are already making suggestions to have Jose Mourinho as a replacement but only time will tell!
